RE: Camping around the ocean west coast Canada and US maybe

hook, line and sinker..................
Alright took a little too seriously, sorry, but just for that comment im gonna have to buy up some BC land like the rest of my albertans and imigrate on over.:)
There isn't too much BC land left that is affordable. With Americans scooping up coastal property and Albertans snagging everything in the Kootenays & Okanagan, even RV-sized lots are selling for hundreds of thousands. We'd consider moving north but Gary is already there ... the only good thing about that is it's keeping property prices down.
:B
Same thing happening here in Calgary with everybody move here. I bought my house for 157,000 its now worth close to 400,000 cause of everybody jacking up the prices cause to many people showing up and buying everything leaving a shortage.

RE: Camping around the ocean west coast Canada and US maybe

With most BC provincial parks you'll be camped in the woods a short walk from the shore. There are a few places where you camp on ocean front dunes. Some places that come to mind (where I've either camped or visited):
Queen Charlotte Islands - north island, Agate Beach (Nagoon sp? Prov Park); closest I can think of to camping right on the shore. There are several forest rec sites with near-beach camping on these islands.
Vancouver Island:
Cape Scott PP - hike in camping on the beach
Malcom Island - community park with camping overlooking the water (inland ocean)
Bamfield - nearby First Nations band operates a campground on dunes (north end of West Coast Trail)
Port Renfrew - another First Nations CG (south end of WCT) on spit
China Beach PP - CG in 2nd growth woods
French Beach PP - CG in older woods with good access to beach
Ruckle PP, Saltspring Island - walk-in sites overlooking ferry boat passage
Rathtrevor PP, Miracle Beach PP - CG in woods
Washington:
Olympic Nat Park - one ocean front campground
County park west of Port Angeles
Washington State Parks - many around Puget Sound, most with short walks to beach. Many are former forts with gun emplacements.
Cape Disappointment SP - north side of Columbia river mouth. Camping just behind ocean front dunes. No views of water, but close.
Oregon State Parks - many
Cape Blanco SP - CG on bluff above ocean in woods
Thanks for the tips as much as i would love to go back to the island it costs too much to take the ferry with the 5ver, so looking around the west coast on this side.

For heavens sake Paul...he's from Alberta...don't give him that list..next thing you'll have them red/white license plates everywhere and they breed...holy cow...
Make up another list....one that includes..mmm....I-5 in either direction on a Friday afternoon of a long weekend around Seattle?
Gary Haupt
Thanks for your help there ass hat!Should be lucky to have some money invested in your exspensive province when we come to visit.
I amm from Calgary and in my city it is very very hard to find somebody that was actually born and raised here like me, so spare me your provincial imigration******and get off your soap box.

Camping around the ocean west coast Canada and US maybe

I am looking for some really nice places to camp around the ocean around Vancouver and lower down towards the border, maybe even some spots on the us side too.
Look for provincial campgrounds if possible as it save the cash flow a bit.
I am hauling a 25ft fifth wheel and power and sewage is not necessary as I am self sufficient too. So tell me where you go and links would also be really great too. Thanks

RE: Hot water heater leaking

On my hot water heater that large bolt was nylon and it was cracked. Tried to take it out to wrap with Teflon tape and it fell apart. Was able to buy a package of two at the RV store. On some hot water heaters the large bolt also is the anode rod which needs to be replaced periodically as it is designed to disintegrate and save the tank itself.
Mine is deff not plastic but thanks for the tip on the Anode rod!! That totaly makes sense.

Hot water heater leaking

I have a 98 kit companaion 25ft 5th wheel, the hot water tank is laeking. It leaks at where it looks like you would drain it. Its a instant start heater, and when you open the panel on the outside of the trailer there is a huge bolt(the main drain i take it??).
It is leaking very slowly from the threads. How tight should these nuts be? How do i take it off, i dont have a socket that big and should i just put some thread tape on it?
Thanks

RE: fridge cooling

Be advised that the fridge needs 12V power even when running on LP gas. This is to operate the ignitor and the electronics. So while in storage you'll need to make sure your battery is up. It's not a big draw but could contribute to a dead battery condition....
I never even thought of that, thanks!
As for the block of ice i was thinking of it for the freezer maybe it would speed it up?
How much power does the fridge atually take up? I know you will need the iginiter to light it, but after that isnit it just the little yellow lights on the top of the fridge thats sucking power?
Also how much power does the little light on the propane dector take? It cant be that much is it? Would it kill a battery in a week or so, what do you think?
Thanks again for all the quick responses.
Also i read somewhere on here it helps to have stuff in the fridge while starting it up, would it help to load up some water or pop?

fridge cooling

What is the best way to pre cool the firdge with something in it or it empty? Would putting a block of ice in it help it to cool quicker? The firdge has to be started on propane as its at a storage yard and no electricity. Also is starting it the night before on propane good enough time to cool it? Thanks

RE: Dry camping questions

When I dry camp I take along a few of those collapsible 5 gallon plastic water containers. I also have a spare 12volt water pump so that I can refill my water tank when needed. I just hook it up to the truck battery and pump away.
After a few dry camping trips tou will learn how to conserve your water and batteries. Have Fun
x2 but i made a connection to plug into my trailer hook up on the back of my truck and just plug in there. My father in law buit a big holding tank in his truck to fill his trailer while we dry camp out at Christina lake in BC, works awsome and virtually no work!

RE: Did I wreck my axles??

trekker
there is certainly nothing wrong with jacking the axle on a standard suspension trailer. I wouldn't go much farther than a 6-8 inches inside the axle U bolt especially on heavier trailers. I've jack from 2750 lb axles to 8000 lb axles with no problems. Fact I never heard of not jacking from the axle or have I ever heard of axle problems from jacking the axle until I became a RV.net member.
Jim
Me too never heard of untill this site, then it saids it in my prodigy install manual, and on the dexter axle website and now see it every where i read.So i did build a 2x6 boards to drive up on and just be as quick as possible. Thanks guys
